UP CEO Blames Software Glitch for Bizarre Voter Slip Blunders Ahead of MLC Polls
Officials say fewer than 150 voter entries were affected, accounting for 0.01% of the electorate.

New Delhi: The office of the Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer has blamed the software for the blunders in the voter slips ahead of the MLC elections in the state. “Ram ne Yadav ko maara", "Takkar Maarna", "Narendra Yadav s/o Bcom", Ravi Sharma s/o “Ram ney Sharma ko Maraa”, Murakh Kali Devi were some of the names printed on the voter slips.
The UP CEO office said the electoral rolls for Graduates and Teachers Constituencies were prepared online and for the first time and facility was provided to voters to apply online through a portal In this portal, voters were provided the facility to obtain information about their polling stations and voter numbers by entering their own name or a relative's name and the mobile number mentioned in the application form.
“It is noteworthy that the portal was prepared in such a short time, and for the convenience of applicants, the online portal, the draft electoral roll, and the final electoral roll were published within the stipulated time frame. Since this portal was created for the first time, officials and operators were trained on such a portal for the first time. According to reports received from districts, the number of certain voters whose names or relatives' names are printed erroneously is less than 150, which is 0.01 percent of the total voters, an extremely low figure,” the UPCEO office said while trying to justify the goofup.
