Bhopal: Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri is set to be elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh following rejection of nominations of two other RS candidates after scrutiny on Tuesday.
Nominations of Congress-backed independent candidate Raj Kumar Lohani and independent candidate Kante Sayanna were rejected for different reasons after scrutiny.
However, Mr. Puri’s nomination remained valid after scrutiny, leading to the prospect of him being elected unopposed to the RS.
The withdrawal of nomination has been fixed on November five.
The RS by-election in MP necessitated the resignation of the sitting MP and Union minister L Murugan from the Central ministry as well as the Upper House.
