Union Minister Jual Oram Turns Actor, Plays Nishadraj Guha in Delhi Ramlila

The Tribal Affairs Minister portrays the revered Ramayana character at the annual Luv Kush Ramlila at Delhi’s Red Fort Maidan.

Stepping away from the corridors of power in New Delhi, Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram took on an acting role on Wednesday, portraying Nishadraj Guha, a revered character from the Ramayana, at the famous Luv Kush Ramlila held at Delhi’s Red Fort Maidan.

Oram, whose political career spans more than four decades, donned the role of the king of the Nishad community, bringing to life the episode depicting his encounter with Lord Shri Ram during the latter’s exile.

As Nishadraj Guha, Oram’s role centres on welcoming Lord Ram upon his arrival and extending hospitality to him before bidding him farewell the following morning. The episode highlights the values of friendship, devotion and selfless service central to the Ramayana.

Sharing his experience, Oram said, “I am playing the role of Nishadraj Guha in the Luv Kush Ramlila. My role is to welcome Lord Shri Ram when he arrives during his exile and see him off the next morning. It is a great experience to be part of this programme.”

The Luv Kush Ramlila, staged annually at the historic Red Fort Maidan, brings episodes from the Ramayana to life through elaborate costumes, dramatic performances and grand portrayals of characters from the epic.

For Oram, the performance provided an opportunity to step beyond his ministerial responsibilities and engage with India’s rich cultural and religious heritage through the timeless story of Lord Ram.
