UCC Bill To Be Placed In MP Assembly In Upcoming Monsoon Session: CM Yadav

The state government has been working on the draft bill on UCC for the past couple of months.

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh chief minister Mohan Yadav on Wednesday hinted at tabling the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill in the upcoming monsoon session of the Assembly.

The state government has been working on the draft bill on UCC for the past couple of months.

A six-member high level committee headed by retired supreme court judge Justice Ranjana Prasad Desai has been constituted in April this year to prepare a draft bill on the UCC after consulting various stakeholders in the state and studying the models of UCC adopted in some BJP-ruled states such as Uttarakhand, Gujarat and Assam.

The committee has been asked to submit its report within 60 days.

“In the upcoming Assembly session, some important bills are going to be placed. One of them is the common civil code. We are progressing towards that”, Mr. Yadav said here and added that ‘With the blessings of Mahakal Baba (Lord Mahakaleshwar, presiding deity of Ujjain temple), the bill will be passed in this session itself”.

The five-day monsoon session of the Assembly is scheduled to commence on July 20.

The state government has meanwhile appealed to the public to share their suggestions on common civil code and a dedicated government portal has been created for the purpose.
