Two Farmers Electrocuted After Coming In Contact With Underground Live Wire In Odisha

Two young farmers were electrocuted after allegedly coming in contact with a live electric wire while returning from their farmland at Benukhandi village in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district on Monday.

The deceased were identified as Sagar Bhoi and Ajay Sahu, both residents of Benukhandi.

According to local residents, the two men had gone to their farmland for agricultural work. While returning from the field on a tractor after completing their work, they reportedly came in contact with an electric wire and suffered severe electric shocks.

They collapsed at the spot and were later rescued by villagers, who rushed them to the Jagatsinghpur District Headquarters Hospital. However, doctors examined them and declared them dead.

The incident triggered tension in the village, with residents raising questions over the circumstances in which the two men came in contact with the live wire.

Villagers alleged that the electric wire had been laid underground without proper authorisation or safety measures. They have demanded a detailed investigation to ascertain who laid the wire and whether the required safety standards were followed.

The residents also sought action against those found responsible and demanded adequate compensation for the families of the two deceased farmers.

The exact circumstances leading to the electrocution and the official response from the electricity authorities and local administration were awaited.
