TRF Denial Of Role In Attack Sows Doubts In Mind Of Kashmiris

The Resistance Front (TRF), an alleged front for Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Tayyaba (LeT), on Saturday denied any involvement in the Pahalgam terror attack at Baisaran Meadows, where militants killed 26 unarmed tourists and injured 17 on Tuesday.

New Delhi:The Resistance Front (TRF), an alleged front for Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Tayyaba (LeT), on Saturday denied any involvement in the Pahalgam terror attack at Baisaran Meadows, where militants killed 26 unarmed tourists and injured 17 on Tuesday.

Security officials say such denials are part of a long-standing TRF tactic to portray itself as a home-grown outfit and shift blame away from Pakistani state actors. “This pattern of reversal aims to sow distrust among Kashmiris by advancing false narratives of Indian agency involvement,” said a senior security official.

According to investigators, TRF operatives conducted reconnaissance at Baisaran Meadows prior to the attack and even posted a video entitled “wait for your time” on extremist online platforms. The denial issued by TRF spokesperson Ahmad Khalid follows the government’s demolition of five houses belonging to identified LeT operatives — two each in Pulwama and Anantnag, and one in Shopian — as punishment for their role in the massacre.

Pakistan’s recent exit from the Financial Action Task Force’s grey list has placed its links to cross-border terrorism under renewed international scrutiny. Authorities warn Islamabad is keen to distance itself from any association with the Pahalgam killings.

Meanwhile, security forces have raised the alert level across South Kashmir amid intelligence that the fleeing Pahalgam module could target Kashmiri Pandit communities, railway infrastructure, and other tourist sites. As part of the ongoing operation, more than 170 locals have been detained in Anantnag district on suspicion of assisting the terror cell.
