Rescue Teams Recover Body of Jammu Trekker After Flash Surge in Majhach Nala

The body of a trekking group leader, who was swept away by strong currents while crossing Majhach Nala in Himachal Pradesh's Kullu district, was recovered on Sunday, police said.The incident occurred on Saturday when a 10-member trekking group was returning from the Shanag-Majhach area above Manali.
Manali DSP K D Sharma said Dhananjay Verma, a resident of Udhampur in Jammu, was caught in the sudden surge of water in Majhach Nala while crossing the stream and was washed away.
Following the incident, a police team from Manali Police Station rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations with the assistance from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), while the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) joined the operation later that night.
On Sunday morning, Verma's body was recovered from the banks of the Beas River near Vashisht. His brother, Kanav Verma, identified the body. Police said the body would be handed over to the family after completion of legal formalities. Authorities have urged trekkers to exercise caution during the monsoon season as water levels in mountain streams can rise suddenly.
