Tragedy: Lightning Strikes Kill Four Women In Odisha’s Sundargarh

The victims were reportedly migrant labourers from neighbouring Chhattisgarh who had come to the area for agricultural work: Reports

BHUBANESWAR: Four women were killed and four others injured in two separate lightning strikes in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Tuesday, highlighting the vulnerability of farm workers to thunderstorms during the monsoon season.

In the first incident, two women labourers were killed and three others suffered serious injuries when lightning struck them while they were working in an agricultural field at Chandinimal village in the Balishankara area.

The victims were reportedly migrant labourers from neighbouring Chhattisgarh who had come to the area for agricultural work. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital, where their condition was reported to be serious.

In a separate incident, two women were killed and another person sustained serious injuries after lightning struck them while they were working in a field at Indrapur village under Bonai police station limits.

The injured person was immediately taken to Bonai Hospital for treatment.
