Tourist Drowns After Being Swept Away by Waves at Goa's Baga Beach

34-year-old visitor from Karnataka ignored warnings and was pulled into the sea by strong waves while sitting on coastal rocks.

A 34-year-old tourist from Karnataka's Bijapur district drowned after being swept away by strong waves while sitting on rocks along the coastline at Baga Beach in North Goa.

The deceased has been identified as Ashpak Masali. According to officials, Masali was sitting on rocks near the shoreline when a sudden surge of rough waves struck the area and dragged him into the sea.

Despite being cautioned about the dangerous sea conditions, he remained on the rocks and was caught off guard by the powerful waves, officials said.

A search operation was launched immediately after the incident. His body was later recovered from the shoreline.

Authorities have once again urged tourists to exercise caution near the sea, especially during periods of rough weather and strong wave activity, and to strictly follow safety advisories issued by lifeguards and local officials.

Further investigation into the incident is underway.
