Tourist Assaulted At Udaipur Restaurant After Cockroach Complaint

Ahmedabad tourist sustains serious head and facial injuries after dispute with restaurant staff, police say.

A tourist from Ahmedabad was allegedly assaulted by the operator and staff of a restaurant in Udaipur after he complained about finding a cockroach in his food, police said on Sunday. The incident took place on Saturday at Meera Restaurant near Delhi Gate Chowk in the Dhanmandi police station area, they said.

The tourist, identified as Jayesh Patel, 35, sustained serious injuries to his face and head and was taken to Maharana Bhupal Hospital for treatment, police said.
Dhanmandi SHO Gajveer Singh said a dispute broke out after Patel's family allegedly found a cockroach in their food.
According to the police, Patel had gone to the restaurant with his family members. When they complained about the insect, the restaurant staff allegedly claimed it was a large cardamom and said they would wash it in the kitchen and show it to them.
Patel allegedly objected, fearing that taking the item inside could destroy evidence of the alleged cockroach, following which an argument broke out.
The altercation escalated and Patel was allegedly attacked by the restaurant operator, leaving him with injuries to his face, police said.
A video showed a policeman present at the spot during the incident but allegedly failing to stop the assault.
Police said both sides have lodged cross-FIRs and an investigation is underway.
