H.E. Najwa Musyrifah Ramli, Consul General of Malaysia in Mumbai, said India remains an important tourism market for Malaysia, with travellers increasingly looking beyond familiar itineraries.

Mumbai: Tourism Malaysia on Friday launched the four-month ‘Malaysia Calling’ Campaign in Mumbai to attract Indian travellers. The initiative aims to introduce lesser-known destinations like Sabah, Sarawak, Penang, Melaka and Langkawi beyond traditional hubs like Kuala Lumpur and Genting Highlands.
Partnered with Scapia, the campaign will spotlight Malaysia’s culture, nature and adventure across destinations including Sabah, Sarawak, Penang, Melaka and Langkawi. It will highlight the cultural attractions, natural landscapes and adventure experiences at these places.
H.E. Najwa Musyrifah Ramli, Consul General of Malaysia in Mumbai, said India remains an important tourism market for Malaysia, with travellers increasingly looking beyond familiar itineraries. She highlighted the country’s rainforests, islands, cuisine, cultural heritage and local experiences as attractions for visitors with varied interests.
“India is one of Malaysia’s most important tourism markets and we are seeing Indian travellers increasingly look beyond familiar itineraries. From rainforests and islands to food, culture and local experiences, Malaysia offers something for every kind of traveller. Through this campaign, we hope to introduce more Indian travellers to Malaysia’s diverse offerings and encourage them to discover more of the country,” she said.
According to Scapia, there is a growing interest among Indian travelers in exploring Malaysia beyond the usual itinerary. Flight bookings to Malaysia through its platform have increased nearly fourfold, while hotel bookings have doubled in recent years. Since the introduction of visa-free entry for Indian nationals in December 2023, India has recorded 962,983 visitor arrivals in Malaysia from January to August 2026.
Anand Kandadai, Head - Strategic & Travel Partnerships, Scapia, said, “Malaysia is already seeing strong interest from our travellers and we see an opportunity to help them discover much more of the country. Through this partnership with Tourism Malaysia, we want to bring more destinations and experiences to our customers, while giving them better value across their trip through rewards and offers on flights, stays and experiences.”
