TMC Rift Deepens as Rebel MP’s Son Sends Legal Notice
Baidyanath Ghosh Dastidar denies seeking a Barasat Assembly ticket, demands a public apology from Mamata Banerjee and senior TMC leaders over alleged defamatory remarks.
Kolkata: The internal turmoil within the Trinamool Congress intensified on Sunday after Baidyanath Ghosh Dastidar, son of rebel TMC MP Dr Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, served a legal notice on former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and several senior party leaders, including Mahua Moitra, Kalyan Banerjee, Sougata Roy and Sonali Guha.
Baidyanath strongly denied allegations that he had sought a Trinamool Congress ticket from the Barasat Assembly constituency and accused party leaders of making “false and defamatory” statements about him. He demanded a public clarification and apology within 15 days.
In the notice, Baidyanath, a psychiatrist by profession, asserted that he had neither sought nor desired a political nomination from Barasat and rejected claims that his mother’s recent dissent within the party was linked to any such demand.
The controversy erupted after Mahua Moitra allegedly claimed that Dr Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar had lobbied for an Assembly ticket for her son. Responding on social media, Baidyanath dismissed the allegation as “100 per cent lies” and warned of legal action against those making such claims.
The latest development comes amid growing dissent within the TMC following the party’s defeat in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, with several leaders openly questioning the party leadership and internal decision-making.
