TMC MLA Kunal Ghosh alleged that his car was attacked with stones and eggs in Hooghly while he was travelling to a party meeting.
Stones and eggs were allegedly hurled at Trinamul Congress MLA Kunal Ghosh’s car in West Bengal’s Hooghly district on Saturday while he was travelling to Serampore for a meeting addressed by party chief Mamata Banerjee.
A group carrying black flags surrounded the vehicle in Uttarpara, shouted “go back” and pelted it with stones and eggs, a party leader said. Ghosh alleged that the car’s rear windshield was broken.
“This is jungle raj. They attacked my car with stones and eggs and blocked the road. No police personnel were present there,” Ghosh said. He said he would return to Kolkata and lodge a complaint at Lalbazaar or Bhabani Bhawan.
Ghosh later went to Bhabani Bhawan, the state police headquarters, but alleged that he was not allowed to enter. “I wanted to talk to a police officer and show the condition of my car. I could not get police help,” he said. He subsequently lodged a complaint at Alipore police station.
TMC leaders blamed the BJP for the incident. Party leader Asit Majumdar called it a “pre-planned attack by the BJP, not a protest by common people”. Uttarpara BJP MLA Dipanjan Chakraborty described it as a “spontaneous response from the public”.
