Berhampore: Trinamul Congress’ Berhampore municipality chairman Naru Gopal Mukherjee resigned on Thursday, reportedly due to mounting pressure and protests by a section of locals. Protesters gheraoed Mukherjee and threw eggs at him, sources added. Coming out in support of West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari Berhampure BJP MLA Subrata Maitra, he pledged whole-hearted support to the BJP government. On the other hand, Mukherjee also came down heavily on Congress former MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury. “I am ready to accept punishment if any wrongdoing is proved during my four-and-a-half-year tenure,” Mukherjee said. The BJP and Congress have not reacted to the sudden resignation.
