Tiger Found Dead In MP Reserve, Officials Attribute Death To Territorial Fight, Conservationists Suspect Foul Play

The post-mortem of the carcass was conducted and the internal organs were sealed for forensic analysis: Reports

BHOPAL: An adult male tiger was found dead in the Satpura Tiger Reserve (STR) under Madhya Pradesh’s Narmadapuram district, officials said on Wednesday.

Carcass of the tiger, named Parsa Pani, was spotted floating in a small water body at the Lagda Beat of the Madai Forest range, falling under the STR, by a patrolling security worker late on Tuesday, a senior forest officer said.

A release issued by the forest department said the carcass was found to be intact and no organ was missing.

The postmortem of the carcass was conducted and the internal organs were sealed for forensic analysis.

No scratch mark was found in the body, indicating that the tiger might have been killed in territorial conflict with another big cat, officials said.

The carcass may be two-three days old.

Conservationist Ajey Dubey however suspected foul play in the incident, contending that ‘since, Parsa Pani was the sole male dominating tiger in the territory for quite a long time, there is a remote possibility of another tiger intruding its territory and engaging in territorial fight’.

He said the site where the carcass was found was close to the forest beat camp.

Hence, how could the carcass had gone unnoticed by the patrolling team for two-three days before being spotted, he said.

He also said it may not be the case of drowning death since the spot in the waterbody where the carcass was spotted was very shallow.

Mr. Dubey demanded a thorough probe into the death of the tiger suspecting that it might be a case of poaching.
