Suvendu: 60 WB Rath Yatra Organisers To Get ₹5 Lakh Grant Each

Mr Adhikari elaborated, “The recipients’ list will be updated next year. We have to uphold and take forward our culture and traditions. There are so many Rath Yatras which are century-old.

Kolkata: West Bengal chief minister Suvendu Adhikari on Monday announced a financial aid of ₹5 lakhs to each of 60 Rath Yatra organisers for a grand celebration of the festival in the state on July 16. He also informed that the state government has planned to set up Seva Kendras (service centres) in 75 Rath Yatra melas (fairs) across the state.

This is the first time the Rath Yatra festival is going to be sponsored by the government after the BJP came to power here. The CM made the announcement after convening a virtual meeting with district administration officials, police officers, and members of Rath Yatra committees.

Taking a swipe at the Trinamul Congress regime, he said, “The previous government used to deploy some traffic police personnel to Rath Yatras earlier to discharge its responsibilities. But this time, we will honour the Rath Yatra committees and help them preserve our culture and traditions. The state government will provide a grant of Rs 5 lakhs each to 60 Rath Yatra committees.”

Mr Adhikari elaborated, “The recipients’ list will be updated next year. We have to uphold and take forward our culture and traditions. There are so many Rath Yatras which are century-old. This is also the time for Shravan Mela when jol jatris (Kanwariyas) visit temples. We have decided to set up seva kendras every five kilometers from Sheoraphuli to Tarakeshwar Dham. We have granted ₹15 crores for the preservation and development of Tarakeshwar Dham.”
