Supreme Court Declines Asaram’s Bail Plea, Schedules Appeal Hearing
The court separately agreed to hear his appeal against the Rajasthan High Court's decision upholding his conviction in the Jodhpur case after he surrenders on completion of parole.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday declined to entertain self-styled godman Asaram's plea challenging the Gujarat High Court's refusal to grant him interim bail to visit his ailing wife in the Gandhinagar rape case.
A bench of Justice J.B. Pardiwala and Justice K. Vinod Chandran allowed his counsel to withdraw the plea after noting that Asaram, 85, was already on parole granted by the Rajasthan High Court in a separate rape case.
Senior advocate Siddharth Dave informed the court that Asaram had suffered a heart attack on Tuesday night and was admitted to intensive care.
Asaram is serving life sentences following convictions in rape cases registered in Jodhpur and Gandhinagar.
The court separately agreed to hear his appeal against the Rajasthan High Court's decision upholding his conviction in the Jodhpur case after he surrenders on completion of parole.
“Unless you are able to convince us that because of a lapse the entire conviction would have been vitiated, we will look into it,” Justice Pardiwala told Dave.
The court posted the appeal for November 17.
Asaram was sentenced to life imprisonment by a Gandhinagar court in 2023 for repeatedly raping a disciple at his Ahmedabad ashram between 2001 and 2006.
