Sule Slams Govt Over Removal Of 80 Lakh ‘Ladki Bahin’ Beneficiaries
Sule slammed the removal of 80 lakh women from the beneficiary list,: Reports

Mumbai: With nearly 80 lakh names reportedly removed or declared ineligible for the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, senior NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule has slammed the Maharashtra Government accusing it of betraying the trust of women in the state.
“Driven solely by the prospect of electoral gain, they (ruling Mahayuti alliance) engaged in the practice of dangling false lures before women. This is a collective disastrous failure of this government in political, administrative and implementation aspects,” Sule said.
The Baramati MP strongly argued that the money comes from taxpayer funds and that no genuinely eligible woman should be deprived of her benefits. “This scheme is funded by tax revenue generated through the hard work of the common people. It raises the pertinent question, has this government been distributing public funds to ineligible beneficiaries for the past year or so? Fundamentally, this entire episode exposes the government's gross incompetence,” she stated in her post on X.
Sule slammed the removal of 80 lakh women from the beneficiary list, questioning why the government did not verify the data before enrolling them ahead of the elections.
“Under the ‘Ladki Bahin’ (Beloved Sister) scheme, 80 lakh women have been deemed ineligible. The scheme was implemented hastily during the election period without any proper verification; it is truly bizarre that, roughly a year or a year and a half later, the government has suddenly realized that 80 lakh women under this scheme are ineligible. This constitutes a collective and abysmal failure on the part of this government — politically, administratively and in terms of implementation,” she said.
Under any circumstances, every sister in Maharashtra must receive the benefits of the ‘Ladki Bahin’ scheme on a regular basis. To ensure that not a single eligible woman in the state is deprived of this scheme, the requirement to complete KYC (Know Your Customer) formalities within a specific deadline should not be allowed to serve as an impediment and the KYC verification must remain available to them at all times, Sule said.
The NCP (SP) leader previously alleged a Rs 4,800-crore scam within the scheme. Her accusations followed data showing thousands of ineligible individuals – including over 12,000 men and tens of thousands of ineligible women – had wrongfully received the Rs 1,500 monthly stipend.
