Sujit Bose Sent To ED Custody In Civic Jobs Scam; Garga Chatterjee Held For Fake Posts
ED counsel prayed for his remand seeking time to interrogate him in the illegal recruitment of 150 job applicants at South Dum Dum Municipality: Reports

KOLKATA: West Bengal former minister Sujit Bose, arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the municipal recruitment scam, was remanded by the Bankshal Court on Tuesday in the central agency’s custody till May 21. The Trinamul Congress heavyweight was produced by the ED before a judge hearing case under Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
ED counsel prayed for his remand seeking time to interrogate him in the illegal recruitment of 150 job applicants at South Dum Dum Municipality.
He also submitted that Bose might have had links in other municipalities’ job scam. The central agency's lawyer argued that Bose’s restaurant had earned ₹1.1 crore during Covid lockdown and had been found with ₹2.2 crore in his personal bank account in that period.
Opposing, Bose's lawyer appealed for his relief. The judge rejected the plea and remanded Bose in 10 days' custody.
Meanwhile, ‘Bangla Pokhho’ founder Garga Chatterjee, who has become a popular voice of pro-advocacy for Bengali culture, was arrested by the cyber cell of the Kolkata Police following a complaint by the Election Commission against him of spreading fake information during the recently concluded Assembly polls.
Kolkata police commissioner Ajay Nanda said that Chatterjee made posts in the social media about EVM tampering and other malpractices which triggered rumours. “He was summoned twice for questioning but he didn't appear. Later he was arrested,” Nanda said. Chatterjee will be produced at the court on Wednesday.
