States Start Deporting Pakistan Nationals

In UP, officials have so far identified 118 Pakistanis; 32 have already been deported via the Attari border crossing, though the total resident population is estimated at around 1,500, primarily in western districts

New Delhi: Following Union home minister Amit Shah’s directive, state governments have launched drives to identify and notify Pakistani nationals to exit India by April 27, with those on medical visas given until April 29.

In Uttar Pradesh, officials have so far identified 118 Pakistanis; 32 have already been deported via the Attari border crossing, though the total resident population is estimated at around 1,500, primarily in western districts. Madhya Pradesh authorities issued exit notices to 228 nationals, while Maharashtra’s home department has asked 55 short-term visa holders — 18 in Nagpur, 19 in Thane, 12 in Jalgaon, three in Pune and one each in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Raigad — to depart by the deadline.

Odisha has begun proceedings against 12 long-term visa holders, and both Bihar and Karnataka are tracing Pakistani residents. Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary affirmed his government’s commitment to complete deportations, and Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara instructed district superintendents to enforce immediate exits.

Meanwhile, Gujarat police detained more than 1,000 undocumented Bangladeshi migrants — 890 in Ahmedabad and 134 in Surat — in the state’s largest such operation, with deportation efforts underway. In Delhi, home minister Ashish Sood appealed to citizens to report any overstaying Pakistani nationals. On Thursday, the Centre revoked all Pakistani visas — except long-term, diplomatic and official categories — after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people.
