Srinagar: BJP J&K Suspends Pulwama District President Amid Extortion Allegations

SRINAGAR: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Jammu and Kashmir has taken swift disciplinary action against Er. Syed Showkat Gayoor Andrabi, district president of BJP Pulwama, following the registration of an FIR alleging extortion and criminal intimidation.
Andrabi has been suspended from all organisational posts and responsibilities pending the outcome of formal disciplinary proceedings.
According to the suspension order issued by BJP J&K State General Secretary and National Council Member Mohammad Anwar Khan, the decision was made on the recommendation of the party’s Disciplinary Committee Chairman, Sunil Sethi, and in consultation with BJP J&K president Sat Sharma. The order states that Andrabi is relieved of all organisational duties, including his role as district president, Pulwama, with immediate effect while the inquiry is underway.
The party emphasised that this action underscores its commitment to upholding discipline, integrity and moral conduct within public life, signalling a zero‑tolerance approach toward allegations that compromise organisational credibility.
The suspension follows a police case filed late Monday night at the Newa police post in Pulwama. J&K Police have booked Andrabi for alleged extortion and criminal intimidation of contractor Mohammad Yaseen Ganie.
In his complaint, Ganie accused Andrabi of repeatedly harassing him, making illegal demands, obstructing lawful work being carried out for the Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Barthana, and threatening to have him detained under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) if he failed to comply.
