SP Counters Shah’s ‘Angad’s Foot’ Claim
Akhilesh Yadav questions the BJP over crimes against women and Dalits in Uttar Pradesh, while Awadhesh Prasad challenges Amit Shah’s claim of the party’s stronghold.

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday questioned Union home minister Amit Shah over crimes against women and Dalits in Uttar Pradesh, while party MP Awadhesh Prasad rejected Shah's claim that the BJP was firmly entrenched in the state.
"The home minister should look into why women face so much injustice in Uttar Pradesh, why the state witnesses so many murders and why people from the Dalit community are among the worst affected," Yadav said.
Responding to Shah's comparison of the BJP government's position to "Angad's foot", Prasad said, "The foot has already been uprooted."
Shah had on Friday asserted that the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh was firmly established and could not be dislodged.
Prasad cited the BJP's setbacks in recent Legislative Council elections in Varanasi, Lucknow, Agra and Prayagraj to challenge Shah's assertion. He also pointed to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, when the SP won 37 seats and the Congress six, giving the I.N.D.I.A. bloc 43 of Uttar Pradesh's 80 seats.
Shah had also announced that the BJP would implement the Uniform Civil Code in Uttar Pradesh if voted back to power.
He criticised the SP over the 1990 police firing on kar sevaks in Ayodhya and contrasted it with the BJP's role in the construction of the Ram temple.
