Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam’s visit to Odisha marks a new era of economic collaboration, says CM Mohan Majhi

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday lauded the two-day visit of Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam to the state, calling it a historic event that has opened up exciting new avenues for economic collaboration between Odisha and Singapore. The visit, according to the Chief Minister, has the potential to significantly strengthen the state’s economic ties with the island nation and attract major investment.

During the visit, eight Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed between Odisha and Singapore, focusing on fostering collaboration in a variety of sectors, including infrastructure, technology, and urban development. CM Majhi emphasised that this partnership would help Odisha achieve its ambitious vision of becoming a developed state by 2036, in time for its centenary celebrations.

“We are working towards making Odisha a prosperous state by 2036. On the national stage, Prime Minister Narendra Modi aims to see India fully developed, or 'Viksit Bharat,' by 2047, marking 100 years of independence. I am confident that Odisha will soon emerge as one of the top five developed states and become a major engine for India's economic growth,” CM Majhi said, outlining his vision for the state’s future.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the strides his government has made in delivering on its promises, particularly in terms of attracting investments. He revealed that more than Rs 2.5 lakh crore in investments had already been cleared through the state’s Single-Window mechanism. Furthermore, CM Majhi expressed optimism that the state would not only meet but surpass the Rs 5 lakh crore revenue target set for the upcoming 'Utkarsha Odisha-Make in Odisha' initiative.

“There is a strong possibility that we will exceed the Rs 5 lakh crore investment target, which would be a significant achievement for our state,” the Chief Minister added, underlining the growing interest from investors in Odisha’s development potential.

Following the success of Singapore President Shanmugaratnam's visit, CM Majhi noted that several other states are now seeking similar partnerships with Singapore to bolster their own development efforts. This, he said, is a clear indication of the positive impact the visit has had on Odisha's economic prospects.

In a pointed critique of the previous Biju Janata Dal (BJD) government led by Naveen Patnaik, CM Majhi remarked that the state had been left in a state of “inaction” and “underdevelopment” during their tenure. He emphasised that his administration is determined to take Odisha forward with a strong focus on progress, infrastructure, and industrial growth.

“The past government failed to bring Odisha to its full potential, leaving the state underdeveloped. But under our leadership, Odisha is witnessing rapid growth and transformation. We are committed to turning Odisha into a powerhouse of economic activity,” CM Majhi asserted.

With the successful visit of Singapore’s President marking a new chapter in Odisha’s economic journey, the state is poised to attract further investments, improve infrastructure, and create new job opportunities, paving the way for a prosperous future.
