Shah To Honour Police Martyrs On October 21

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will honour police martyrs at the National Police Memorial on October 21 and flag off a motorcycle rally against drugs.

Union home minister Amit Shah will pay homage to police personnel killed in the 1959 Ladakh ambush at the National Police Memorial in New Delhi on Wednesday, October 21, to mark Police Commemoration Day.

Shah will preside over a joint parade by the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and Delhi Police, address the gathering and lay a wreath at the memorial.

Police Commemoration Day is observed annually in memory of 10 police personnel killed by heavily armed Chinese troops at Hot Springs in Ladakh on October 21, 1959, and other personnel who have died in the line of duty.

Shah will also flag off a motorcycle rally themed "Fight Against Drugs", involving about 90 riders from states, Union Territories, CAPFs and other central police organisations.

The rally is part of a nationwide campaign under which police riders from across the country will converge at Ekta Nagar in Gujarat for the Ekta Parade on October 31.

Participants will include riders from Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, besides the CRPF, CISF, BSF, SSB, ITBP, NSG, Railway Protection Force, National Disaster Response Force and National Investigation Agency.

The event will be attended by the Union minister of state for home affairs, lawmakers with police backgrounds, senior and retired police officers, and other dignitaries.

Commemorative activities will continue at the memorial from October 22 to 30, including visits by families of deceased personnel, police band performances, motorcycle rallies, a Run for Martyrs, blood donation camps, competitions for children and screenings of films highlighting the service and sacrifice of police personnel.

Similar programmes will be held by police forces across the country, the home ministry said.
