Kolkata: In a blistering attack, Union home minister Amit Shah on Sunday said West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee would have to “atone her sins for 71 births” for patronising the monumental corruption, almost in every domain, during her 15-year-rule in the state.
Shah, who addressed many rallies and roadshows ahead of the last day of the campaign, also sent out a stern message to the Trinamul Congress-backed “goons”, asking them not to harass the voters during the second and final phase of the Assembly elections, otherwise, they would find themselves hanging upside down post-poll.
Lashing out at the CM, the Union home minister said at a BJP poll campaign rally in Ranaghat of Nadia, “I am telling all the corrupt leaders of Mamata: No one will be spared, be it the teacher recruitment scam or the PM awas yojana scam or the Amphan scam. No one will be saved. We will catch each and every one of them and put them behind bars. There has been so much corruption that Didi will have to atone for her sins for 71 births.”
He earlier told a campaign rally in Tehatta of the same district, “Didi's goons used to threaten you in every election. Don't worry, no goon will come in between this time. I am asking them not to dare even on April 29. Otherwise, they will be straightened after getting hanged upside down on May 5.”
The BJP key strategist also played up the infiltration issue in his address and attacked MsBanerjee over it in the backdrop of the large-scale deletion of names from the voters' list by the Election Commission in the special intensive revision (SIR).
Shah claimed, “Didi asks why infiltrators' names are being deleted by conducting the SIR. Didi, your time is up. On May 4, BJP will come to power. Now only names are removed from the voters' list. Once a BJP CM takes over, infiltrators will be evicted from across Bengal. It's our pledge.”
He also came down heavily on her over the Babri Masjid-styled mosque construction by Aam Janata Unnyan Party founder Humayun Kabir in Murshidabad to galvanize the Muslim votebank in the polls. “Didi wants Babri Masjid to be built in Bengal and has entrusted her aide, Humayun, for it. As long as even a single BJP worker is alive in the country, we will not let it happen here,” Mr Shah observed.
