SCBA Condemns Detention Of Lawyers, Seeks CJI’s Intervention
The Supreme Court Bar Association condemned the alleged use of excessive force against lawyers detained during protests in Delhi and sought the Chief Justice’s intervention.

The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) on Saturday condemned the alleged use of excessive force against lawyers participating in protests near the Supreme Court and sought the urgent intervention of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant.
In a resolution, the association expressed concern over reports that several senior and young advocates, particularly women lawyers, had been detained by Delhi Police while participating in peaceful demonstrations.
The lawyers were detained amid heightened security arrangements for the Cockroach Janta Party's (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The SCBA urged the Chief Justice to take up the matter with the authorities to ascertain the whereabouts and safety of the detained advocates and ensure that they had access to legal assistance.
It also sought the immediate release of those against whom there were no lawful grounds for detention.
The association called for an examination of the circumstances surrounding the detentions and the alleged use of excessive force, and sought appropriate action in accordance with law.
The resolution was forwarded to the Chief Justice for urgent consideration.
SCBA honorary secretary Pragya Baghel later said all the detained lawyers had been released.
