The progress made in combating Naxalism, describing it as one of Chhattisgarh’s most significant achievements over the past decade: Chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai

RAIPUR: Chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Wednesday credited Centre’s ‘unprecedented support’ for transformation of Chhattisgarh across sectors ranging from security and infrastructure to agriculture, social and tribal welfare.

Hailing prime minister Narendra Modi for completing 12 years in the position, Mr. Sai, in a letter to him, said that Chhattisgarh has witnessed significant progress under the PM’s leadership and attributed major gains in development, governance and internal security of the state to the Centre’s sustained policy support and flagship welfare initiatives.

He noted that the state had benefited from extensive central assistance in addressing Naxalism, expanding connectivity, strengthening rural infrastructure, and improving the lives of the farmers, tribal communities, women and weaker sections.

He underscored the progress made in combating Naxalism, describing it as one of Chhattisgarh’s most significant achievements over the past decade.

He said that the Centre’s sustained focus on both security and development in Naxal-affected regions has brought the state closer than ever to the goal of becoming Naxal-free.

Mr. Sai said that the central support through key initiatives, including special central assistance, the security related expenditure scheme, the special infrastructure scheme, modernization of security forces, air support and specialized jungle warfare training, has significantly enhanced operational capabilities on the ground.

At the same time, improved road connectivity, mobile network expansion, electrification and greater access to education and healthcare have strengthened governance in remote areas and encouraged greater public confidence in the state’s development process.

More than 3,222 kms of road and several major bridges have been constructed in the previously inaccessible areas in Bastar resulting in strengthening of security operations as well as faster delivery of development and public welfare initiatives, the letter said.
