RS Polls For 8 Seats From Assam, Tamil Nadu on June 19
Terms of BJP’s Baishya, Das and six TN MPs to end in June-July

New Delhi: The Election Commission on Monday announced biennial polls to eight Rajya Sabha seats on June 19. Term of eight members of the Rajya Sabha -- two from Assam and six from Tamil Nadu – is coming to an end in June and July.
The terms of two BJP MPs Birendra Prasad Baishya and Mission Ranjan Das from Assam are coming to an end on June 14. Similarly, the terms of six members from Tamil Nadu -- Anbumani Ramadoss (PMK), N Chandrasegharan (AIADMK), M Shanmugam (DMK), P. Wilson (DMK) and Vaiko (MDMK) ends on July 24.
The formal notification for the biennial exercise will be held on June 2, the EC said and the counting of votes will take place on the June 19 evening itself.
“The Commission has directed that for the purpose of marking preference(s) on the ballot paper only integrated violet colour sketch pen(s) of pre-fixed specification, provided by the Returning Officer, shall be used. No other pen shall, under any circumstances, be used in the said elections. Adequate measures for close monitoring of the election process by appointing observers shall be taken to ensure free and fair election. Broad Guidelines of Covid-19 issued by ECI from time to time, available at ECI website may be followed, wherever applicable, during the entire election process by all persons,” the ECI notification said.
