RG Kar Victim's 'Hurried Cremation': Mob Attacks Ex-TMC MLA Nirmal Ghosh, Aide
A visibly distraught Ghosh was also pelted with footwear, eggs and even muck by the mob despite the tight cordon of police and RAF personnel who covered his head with a helmet to minimise damage caused by the attack.
Kolkata: Former Panihati Trinamul Congress MLA Nirmal Ghosh and his aide Sanjib Mukherjee, who were arrested by the police on Thursday for their alleged role in the hurried cremation of the body of the raped and murdered doctor of R G Kar Medical College and Hospital two years ago, faced a furious mob attack before their production at a court in North 24 Parganas of West Bengal on Friday.
They were not only targeted with eggs but were also kicked and punched by angry local residents at will as soon as they were taken out of the Khardah police station by the cops to put them in the prison van. Mr Ghosh was seen wearing a helmet for protection. The attacking crowd also shouted ‘Chor, Chor’ slogan at him and his aide. The police personnel had a tough time tackling the protesters.
The victim's father, who lodged a fresh complaint with the police leading to the duo's arrest, was also present during the demonstration. Later Mr Ghosh and Mr Mukherjee were produced at the Barrackpore Court and were remanded by a judge in police custody for eight days and seven days respectively. The third accused, Somnath De, in the case is absconding.
