New Delhi: Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Sunday intensified his criticism of the Centre over the CBSE On-Screen Marking (OSM) controversy, alleging that students’ concerns were being met with “insults instead of answers”.
In a social media post, he said, “This morning, the Prime Minister had time to speak about mangoes. He has not had time to speak about 18.5 lakh children whose answer sheets were scanned with phones. Dharmendra Pradhan ji still sits in office. Modi ji’s silence is no longer indifference. It is complicity.”
Sharing a video of his interaction with affected students, Gandhi said, “Vedant and his friends are brilliant, brave young Indians who asked CBSE and the Modi government simple questions but got insults instead of answers. They deserve a bright and secure future. We will make sure they get it.”
The controversy arose after a Class 12 student alleged that the Physics answer sheet uploaded by the Central Board of Secondary Education during revaluation was not his, with similar complaints later reported by other students.
In the video, Gandhi is seen interacting with students and referring to allegations that those raising concerns were labelled “anti-national”, “deep state agents” or “terrorists”. “You are students. You are asking for your answer sheets, that’s all. Now, suddenly, you have become anti-nationals,” he said.
“You are students. You are asking for your answer sheets, that’s all. Now, suddenly, you have become anti-nationals,” Gandhi said, adding in a lighter remark, “Show the faces of these terrorists.”
The CBSE said cases involving alleged answer-sheet mismatches and other revaluation-related concerns were being addressed on priority. Government sources said experts from IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur and the Digital Infrastructure Corporation of India were examining the system and working to strengthen the portal.
Gandhi also questioned the role of Coempt, the firm handling the OSM process, alleging prior controversies under its former name, Globarena, and demanded an independent judicial probe and a Special Investigation Team inquiry into the issue.
