Revanth asks officials to speed up RRR works

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday directed officials to speed up the work on Hyderabad Regional Ring Road (RRR) by completing land acquisition in the next three months. He also asked officials to clear all the hurdles coming in the way of execution of the RRR project.

Land acquisition for the RRR project had come to a halt for the past year. The Centre has approved the construction of the 158-km northern part of the RRR under phase-I of Bharatmala Pariyojana in 2021. The Centre has also agreed to bear 50 per cent of the land acquisition cost for the RRR and the remaining 50 per cent was to be borne by the state government.

However, the previous BRS government delayed releasing its share of funds for land acquisition due to which the project could not make progress. Out of 1,935 hectares that needed to be acquired, the previous government could initiate the process to acquire only 1,459 acres, which is still under different states of acquisition.

After the Congress government came to power in the state on December 7, the Chief Minister laid special focus on the RRR project. He drafted plans for industrial development in three clusters in the state, namely Urban Telangana, covering regions within ORR limits, semi-urban clusters between ORR and RRR and rural clusters outside RRR.

The CM asked officials to ensure speedy completion of the RRR project to execute his plans of developing industries in three clusters. He asked officials to call for tenders for construction of RRR while ensuring speedy land acquisition simultaneously.

The CM requested Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari to declare the southern part of RRR as national highway and draft an action plan for land acquisition to undertake this project.
