Resolve voter list complaints quickly, says election observer

Visakhapatnam: Principal secretary J. Shyamala Rao on Thursday asked election officials to resolve any complaints from political parties about the voters’ list.

Touring Visakhapatnam district as voters’ list observer, he asked elections officials concerned to ensure transparency in preparation of voters’ list. He underlined that a definitive list must be ready and published by January 22.

Shyamala Rao said registration of young voters must be given high priority. In this regard, he held a meeting with Vizag joint collector, DRO and ERO. He issued them directions on procedures to be followed while preparing the definitive voters’ list.

The senior official inquired about various issues emerging while examining the constituency-wise voter lists, ratio of polling stations and other details.

He asked for details of locations where there are more than five polling stations in one place. He emphasised that pre-emptive plans should be put in place to avoid any security lapses.

Shyamala Rao said as per Election Commission rules, published copies of the final list must be handed over to district president or secretaries of political parties, apart from being made available at polling stations.

On the occasion, joint collector K.S. Viswanathan made a presentation on the list of voters.
