Rajnath, Koizumi to Deepen India-Japan Defence Ties

New Delhi:Defence minister Rajnath Singh will hold bilateral talks with his Japanese counterpart Shinjiro Koizumi on Thursday to strengthen defence ties, enhance strategic cooperation and identify new areas of collaboration between the two countries.
The two ministers will exchange views on deeper maritime security cooperation and closer collaboration in defence equipment and technology under the ‘Make-in-India’ framework, following Japan’s revision of the Three Principles on Transfer of Defence Equipment and Technology.

On his maiden visit to India, Koizumi on Wednesday visited the Western Naval Command in Mumbai, where he held discussions with Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Krishna Swaminathan and Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command, Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan.
The Japanese delegation was briefed on the roles, responsibilities and operational capabilities of the Indian Navy.
Upon his arrival, Koizumi inspected a Guard of Honour at the Western Naval Command. He also laid a wreath at the Gaurav Stambh at the Naval Dockyard and visited the indigenous ship INS Chennai.
India and Japan share a common vision of a free, open, resilient and prosperous Indo-Pacific region. The two-day visit comes weeks after Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi visited New Delhi for the Annual Summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where the two sides agreed to deepen defence and security cooperation.
