Rahul Slams RSS, PM Modi Over History Row, Student Protest Crackdown
Congress leader says the RSS cannot rewrite India's history and demands the Prime Minister apologise to students instead of seeking forgiveness.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing the RSS of attempting to rewrite India's history and asserting that the country would not allow its historical legacy to be "trampled upon."
Addressing the media, Gandhi said, "The RSS can't change our history. India will not tolerate its history being trampled upon by anybody."
He also criticised the government's handling of student protests, saying students were "in severe pain" and deserved justice rather than symbolic gestures.
"Students are in severe pain. They don't need the Prime Minister's forgiveness; Modi needs to apologise instead," Gandhi said, referring to the police action against student protesters.
The remarks come amid continued political confrontation between the Opposition and the ruling BJP over the treatment of student demonstrators and broader ideological issues. The Opposition has repeatedly accused the government of suppressing dissent, while the BJP has defended its actions and accused the Congress of politicising the issue.
The comments also coincided with disruptions in Parliament, where Opposition parties continued their protests over multiple issues, including the police action on student protesters and allegations surrounding the Ayodhya Ram Temple donation theft.
