Radha Gayatri Case: Husband Sri Charan Detained In Dehradun
Uttarakhand Police on Saturday arrested Sricharan Somayajula, the husband of techie Radha Gayatri, who died under suspicious circumstances at a homestay in Mussoorie on June 14.
Dehradun police late on Friday night arrested software engineer S. Sricharan near his parents’ house in East Delhi in connection with the mysterious death of his wife Parupudi Radha Gayatri., 27, originally a resident of Visakhapatnam.
Sleuths took Sricharan from Delhi to Dehradun and produced him before a court whose magistrate remanded him to 14 days’ judicial custody. He has been lodged in District Central Hail, Sudhowala, Dehradun.
Software professional Radha Gayatri, a resident of Vizag city, had been found dead under suspicious circumstances at a homestay on the Mussoorie-Dhanaulti Road on June 15, while being on a vacation with her husband Sricharan.
“Sricharan had been avoiding questioning and never gave us his proper location,” said deputy superintendent of police Dehradun J.C. Pant, who is investigating the case filed against Gayatri’s husband under 103(A) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). There is a suspicion that he might have played a role in her death.
Significantly, the district administration of Dehradun in Uttarakhand has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the death of Gayatri. It has issued a public notice inviting members of the public to submit any complaints, evidence, or information related to the case by July 17.
Radha Gayatri and Sricharan, both IT professionals, got married in Visakhapatnam in November 2025. Following Gayatri’s death, her parents Sudhakar and Satyavati have alleged that Sricharan has murdered Gayatri. They have demanded an independent, transparent, and thorough inquiry.
Following persistent efforts by Gayatri’s parents, the Mussoorie police registered a case under Section 103(1) (murder) of BNS against Sricharan. A non-bailable warrant had been issued against Sricharan.
Radha Gayatri and Sricharan had travelled from Delhi to Rishikesh on June 13. They checked into the homestay along Mussoorie-Dhanaulti Road on June 14. Gayatri had been found dead under mysterious conditions on June 15.
Sricharan had told police that they had consumed alcohol before retiring to their room in the early hours of June 15. Later, the husband said, he found his wife bleeding from the nose.
Radha Gayatri had been found dead lying naked on the floor of the room. Bloodstains have been found on a bedsheet. Two empty liquor bottles and food items have been recovered from the scene.
Sricharan had initially claimed innocence before the Vizag city media after his wife’s death. However, he absconded once a case had been registered against him by Dehradun police.
Uttarakhand police have already issued summons to Sricharan and his parents Durgaprasad and Seetha Mahalakshmi to appear before them.
