Priority on River Interlinking Projects to Double Irrigation Coverage, Boost Farm Growth: Madhya Pradesh CM

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh chief minister Mohan Yadav on Friday said that his government has set priority to the river interlinking projects to boost the farm growth by doubling irrigation coverage.
Mr. Yadav said that his government has set a target to increase irrigation coverage in the state from 55 lakh hectares in 2024-25 to 100 lakh hectares in 2028-29.
He said that the proposed mega projects involving linking of interstate rivers as well as two rivers in the state, currently under various stages of implementation, will help increase the irrigation coverage in the state, besides providing drinking water to thousands of villages.
Three river interlinking projects are currently being undertaken.
They are linking Ken-Betwa rivers, which is going to benefit Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, linking of the rivers of Parbati- Kalisindh- Chambal, which will benefit Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan and the linking of the two state rivers, Gambhir and Kanh.
This apart, the Tapti river water recharge project is being undertaken which will benefit Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
The state government has also developed a mechanism to ensure remunerative prices to the farm produce by encouraging establishment of food processing industries and helping the farmers access the market, he said.
“Madhya Pradesh has declared 2026 as the year of agriculture to focus on the development of the farm sector and increase the income of the farmers of the state”, he said.
Mr. Yadav further said that his government has also focused on industrialization of the state by wooing investments from India and abroad.
He said that the first of its kind concept of regional industry conclave, implemented by his government, has helped woo investments to the different regions of the state.
The chief minister said that his government has cleared 18 new policies to create the right ecosystem for industrialization of the state.
The state has attracted investments to the tune of Rs 32 lakh crore in the last two years, out of which, projects worth Rs 8.50 lakh crore are currently under various stages of implementation.
He said that Madhya Pradesh has become Naxal-free after around four decades following neutralization of all the Maoist guerrillas active in the state during the period.
The state government is in the process of developing a mechanism to deny revival of Maoism again, he added.
