CJP's Dipke Demands Action Against Police Brutality
He said the protesters would continue their sit-in until the Centre provides a written assurance that the remaining two demands will also be met.
After a month-long student agitation led by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over irregularities in examinations and the NEET paper leak, Pradhan submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday.
Following the resignation, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke addressed the gathering, stating that Pradhan's exit fulfilled only one of the movement's three key demands. He said the protesters would continue their sit-in until the Centre provides a written assurance that the remaining two demands will also be met.
The pending demands include Rs 1 crore in compensation for the families of students who committed suicide due to the NEET paper leak, and an assurance that no action will be taken against the protesters.
Dipke further demanded action against police personnel over the alleged crackdown on demonstrators on the 20th.
Addressing the crowd, Dipke said, "There's no need to be afraid. This is democracy. He has resigned, but we have two more demands. We won't leave like this. Dharmendra Pradhan has resigned. But the families of the children who committed suicide should receive compensation of one crore rupees. They should get it. One crore rupees compensation to all those families. And second, these police goons who acted on the 20th. Action must be taken against the police officers for that. Remember, do not mess with cockroaches."
According to the CJP, the Centre had assured the protesters during talks on Friday that it would consider the remaining two demands, but had remained silent on the demand for Pradhan's resignation, which was fulfilled the following day.
