Live: Debate On Op Sindoor
"The Parliament is ready to discuss Operation Sindoor. First of all, I would like to extend my gratitude on behalf of the Parliament towards brave jawans who have sacrificed for the country whenever required," Singh said

New Delh: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday initiated the long-awaited discussion on Operation Sindoor on the floor of the lower house of Parliament. Labelling the military operation that was launched by the Indian armed forces as "historic", Singh paid tributes to the soldiers who always remain ready to sacrifice their lives for the nation.
"The Parliament is ready to discuss Operation Sindoor. First of all, I would like to extend my gratitude on behalf of the Parliament towards brave jawans who have sacrificed for the country whenever required," Singh said in his address to Lok Sabha. He emphasised that Operation Sindoor was a "decisive and effective demonstration" of India's policy against terrorism.
"On May 6 and 7, the Indian armed forces launched Operation Sindoor, which remains historic. Operation Sindoor was not merely a military operation but a decisive and effective demonstration of our policy against terrorism. It also reflected commitment to India's sovereignty, its identity, and our responsibility towards the citizens of the country," Rajnath Singh said. The Defence Minister informed the Lok Sabha about the "in-depth study" conducted by the armed forces prior to launching Operation Sindoor. He said that India chose to inflict maximum damage to terrorists while ensuring that civilians remained unharmed.
"Before carrying out Operation Sindoor, our armed forces conducted an in-depth study of every aspect. We had several options. But we chose the one that would inflict maximum damage on the terrorists and their hideouts, while causing no harm to Pakistani civilians. Soon after the Pahalgam attack, our Armed Forces took action and hit with precision the nine terrorist infra sites in which more than 100 terrorists, their trainers and handlers were targeted," Singh said.
"The well-coordinated strikes carried out by our Armed Forces hit nine terrorist infrastructure targets with precision. In this military operation, it is estimated that over a hundred terrorists, their trainers, handlers, and associates were killed. Most of these were linked to terrorist organisations such as Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen," he added."The entire operation was concluded within 22 minutes," Singh said.Prior to Singh's address, Lok Sabha was adjourned thrice till 2 pm amid the ruckus, with Opposition MPs entering the Well of the Lower House.

Jaishankar did not categorically deny US' involvement in India-Pak 'ceasefire': Priyanka
Soon after S Jaishankar made a statement in the Lok Sabha regarding Operation Sindoor, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday claimed that the external affairs minister has not categorically stated that the US was not involved in the "ceasefire" between India and Pakistan.Jaishankar on Monday asserted that at no stage in any conversation with the US was there any linkage of trade with Operation Sindoor and the request for halting the military action came from the Pakistani side through the DGMO channel.
He also said the result of India's diplomacy post-Pahalgam attack was that only three out of 190 nations which are part of the UN opposed Operation Sindoor.
Asked about his remarks in the Lok Sabha, Priyanka Gandhi said, "There are certain things he has not categorically said. He has made some statements but for example he has not categorically said that the US was not involved in the ceasefire."
"He (Jaishankar) has said (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi ji did not speak to Mr Trump for a certain period but he has not categorically said that the US was not involved. That is interesting," she said.
The Congress has been repeatedly attacking the government over Trump's remarks.
Since May 10, when Trump announced on social media that India and Pakistan had agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire after a long night of talks mediated by Washington, the US President has repeated his claim on several occasions that he helped settle the tensions between India and Pakistan.
However, India has been consistently maintaining that the understanding on cessation of hostilities with Pakistan was reached following direct talks between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of the two militaries.
In a nearly 35-minute phone call with Trump last month, Modi firmly stated that India does not and will "never accept" mediation and that the discussions between Indian and Pakistani militaries on cessation of military actions were initiated at Islamabad's request.
India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in retaliation for the Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians.
India and Pakistan reached an understanding on May 10 to end the conflict after four days of hostilities.

Shah Slams Congress For Not Trusting Jaishankar's Statement
Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday slammed the Congress for not trusting the statement of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Operation Sindoor and instead believing US President Donald Trump, and said that is why it is sitting in the opposition and will remain there for 20 more years."They (opposition) do not have faith in the minister of external affairs who has taken oath as a member of the Indian government. They trust some other country. I know the importance of foreign (opinion) in their party, but it does not mean that they should impose this view on Parliament," he said in a brief intervention in the Lok Sabha when Jaishankar was speaking during the discussion on Operation Sindoor.
Jaishankar has taken oath as a minister and is responsible for what he is saying, Shah said.
The external affairs minister asserted that at no stage in any conversation with the US was there any linkage of trade with Operation Sindoor, and the request for halting the military action came from the Pakistani side through the DGMO channel.

New India can go to any extent to uproot terror: Rajnath Singh
Decisive action has replaced dossiers and the new India can go to any extent to uproot terrorism, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Monday while stating that Operation Sindoor was on pause as the armed forces had achieved the desired objectives.Initiating the special discussion on "India's strong, successful and decisive Operation Sindoor in response to the terror attack in Pahalgam" in the Lok Sabha, Singh said the military action against Pakistan had sent a clear message to supporters of terrorism that India was committed to defend its motherland.
Just as the debate started in the Lok Sabha, security forces in Jammu and Kashmir reported that three terrorists have been gunned down after a massive gunfight.
"Today, dossiers have been replaced by decisive action. Today's India thinks differently and acts differently. We believe that if the adversary uses terrorism as part of strategy and does not understand the language of peace, then standing firm and being decisive is the only option," Singh said.
Rejecting US President Donald Trump's claims of mediating a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, the minister added, "Operation Sindoor was paused as the armed forces had achieved the desired politico-military objectives and there was no pressure to end the conflict with Pakistan."
If Pakistan indulges in fresh misadventure, it will resume again, he added.
Singh asserted that India now believes in taking decisive action as peace overtures have not yielded desirable results.
The defence minister also made light of the opposition attacks against the government on the loss of military assets in the four-day war and urged political rivals to ask the number of Pakistani aircraft downed by India.
"It is the opposition's job to ask questions of the government. Our opposition members kept asking how many of our aircraft were shot down, but they never asked how many Pakistani planes our forces had shot down," Singh said.
"If you want to ask questions, then ask if any of our soldiers were harmed in this operation. The answer is no, none of our soldiers were harmed."

"If Pakistan was ready to kneel down, why did you stop, to whom did you surrender...": Gaurav Gogoi targets government over Trump's claims
Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi on Monday targeted government over US President Donald Trump's repeated claims that he brokered the cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan following Operation Sindoor and asked if Islamabad was ready to kneel down, "why did you stop, and to whom did you surrender?"Participating in the debate on 'India's strong, successful and decisive Operation Sindoor in response to terrorist attack in Pahalgam' in Lok Sabha,
Gogoi slammed the government for stopping Operation Sindoor after Pakistan capitulated and asked why did it not go further and reclaim the territory illegally occupied by the neighbouring country. "The entire country, and the Opposition, were supporting PM Modi. Suddenly, on 10th May, we got to know that there had been a ceasefire. Why? We wanted to know from PM Modi that if Pakistan was ready to kneel down, then why did you stop, and to whom did you surrender? The US President has said this 26 times that he forced India and Pakistan to announce a ceasefire," Gogoi said.
The government has stated that there was no mediation and the cessation of hostilities with Pakistan during Operation Sindoor took place after Pakistan's DGMO contacted his Indian counterpart. BJP has in the past slammed Congress leaders over their "surrender" jibe at the govrenment.
"PM Modi came back from Saudi Arabia, but he did not visit Pahalgam. He attended a govt program and addressed a political rally in Bihar. If someone went to Pahalgam, it was our leader Rahul Gandhi...", Gogoi said.
Gogoi said Home Minister Amit Shah should take responsibility for Pahalgam terror attack, and "cannot hide behind" the Lt Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha. He accused government of being "weak" and 'cowardly" for saying that the tour operators were responsible for taking people to Baisaran without their permission or license."In the end, who takes the responsibility of the Pahalgam attack? The LG of Jammu and Kashmir. If someone needs to take the responsibility, it is the Union Home Minister.
Union HM and the Central Govt cannot hide behind the LG... The government is so weak and cowardly that it said that the Tour Operators are responsible for taking people to Baisaran without their permission or license," he said. The Congress leader also hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi stating that he did not go to Pahalgam after returning from Saudi Arabia, but went to Bihar and gave an "election speech".

When aiming higher, don't get stuck on small issues: Rajnath Singh tells Oppn in Lok Sabha during Op Sindoor debate
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday took a swipe at the Opposition during discussion on Operation Sindoor in Lok Sabha, stating that focus must not remain on small issues when aiming to achieve a higher feat, since it can divert attention from national security."When the aim is to go higher, we should not pay attention to small issues because focusing on issues that remain comparatively small can divert attention from national security," Singh said while addressing the lower house of Parliament on Operation Sindoor. He criticised the choice of questions raised by the Opposition over time and opined that queries regarding the felling of Indian planes don't reflect the national sentiments correctly. Singh questioned the Opposition as to why they haven't asked about the destruction of planes on the Pakistani side."It is the job of the ruling side to work while keeping in mind the interests of the people, and the opposition's job is to question the government on issues concerning the public...There have been instances where the opposition has inquired about the number of our planes that fell. I don't think this question by the opposition correctly represents our national sentiment. They never asked us a single time how many planes of the enemy were destroyed by our armed forces," Singh added.
The Defence Minister asserted that terrorist camps in Pakistan were destroyed during Operation Sindoor, and India has dealt with terrorists involved in the Pahalgam terror attack by eliminating their masters."If they want to pose questions, their question should be whether we destroyed the terrorist camps? The answer is yes. If you have a question to ask, ask this: Were any of our brave soldiers harmed in this operation? The answer is no, none of our soldiers were harmed. If you have a question to ask, ask whether terrorists who wiped the Sindoor off our sisters and daughters have been dealt with by our forces in Operation Sindoor, eliminating their masters? The answer is yes," Singh said.Singh today initiated the long-awaited discussion on Operation Sindoor on the floor of the lower house of Parliament.Labelling the military operation that was launched by the Indian armed forces as "historic", Singh paid tributes to the soldiers who always remain ready to sacrifice their lives for the nation.
