MLA Humayun Kabir, Suspended by TMC Over Babri-Style Mosque Plan, Floats New Party
Kabir said his mission is to oust Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee from power in the assembly polls, which will be due in less than six months

Berhampore: Suspended Trinamul Congress MLA Humayun Kabir launched his new outfit, Janata Unnyan Party, by releasing its manifesto of 75 pages and unfurling its flag in green, yellow and white colours at Beldanga in Murshidabad of West Bengal on Monday.
He is however yet to decide his new outfit’s symbol which may be two roses with thorns or a table. At the launch event, Mr Kabir claimed that his party would bag 100 seats in the next year's Assembly Election. He also sprang a surprise, declaring the names of 10 candidates including him for 11 seats.
Among the 10, three are his namesake who will contest at five seats. One of them is a physician fighting at Raninagar, another is a local businessman at Bhagabangola. The other is a stone chips merchant contesting at Rampurhat in Birbhum.
Mr Kabir, who represents Bharatpur seat, however announced that he would fight the polls this time from two seats, Beldanga and Rejinagar. To project his new party as secular, he fielded two hindu Brahmin candidates, Manisha Pande at Murshidabad seat and Nisha Chatterjee at Ballygunge seat.
The other candidates are Mustara Bibi at Bhaishnavnagar in Malda, Ohidur Rahaman at Harirampur in North Dinajpur and Haji Ibrar Hossain at Kharagpur in West Midnapore and Sirajul Mondal at Ichhapur in North 24 Parganas. Accepting the challenge of TMC spokesman Kunal Ghosh, Mr Kabir later vowed to hold a mega rally at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata in January.
