Kharge's 'Modi Ka Baap' Jibe Sparks Row, Shah Hits Back

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's "Modi ka baap bhi jayega" remark at a public meeting in Patna on Sunday triggered a political uproar, with Union home minister Amit Shah accusing him of crossing all limits of political decorum.

New Delhi: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's "Modi ka baap bhi jayega" remark at a public meeting in Patna on Sunday triggered a political uproar, with Union home minister Amit Shah accusing him of crossing all limits of political decorum.

The controversy took a turn when the audience member who prompted the remark claimed his words had been misunderstood.

The incident occurred during an event marking the 139th birth anniversary of Bihar's first chief minister, Shrikrishna Singh.

While Kharge was warning that those responsible for alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls would be sent to jail, a man in the audience shouted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would not go anywhere.

Kharge shot back, "Modi ka baap bhi jayega" (Even Modi's father will have to go).

The man, identified as Santosh Kumar, was subsequently roughed up by Congress supporters and forced out of the venue.

Speaking to reporters later, Kumar claimed that his remarks had been misunderstood.

He said he had actually meant that Modi would not go unless there was a rebellion, but only part of his statement had been heard.

Reacting sharply, Shah accused the Congress president of insulting the Prime Minister's late father and disregarding political decorum.

In a post on X, Shah said the Congress had repeatedly targeted Modi and his family, including his mother, and mocked his humble background.

He alleged that the party was increasingly resorting to personal attacks under Rahul Gandhi's leadership.

Bihar BJP president Sanjay Saraogi described Kharge's remarks as unfortunate and alleged that they reflected the Congress' frustration.

He said political differences did not justify personal attacks and urged leaders to maintain dignity in public discourse.

Senior JD(U) leader Rajeev Ranjan also condemned the remarks and asked the Congress to introspect over its electoral setbacks in Bihar.
