India Approves Electricity Supply To Nepal After Flash Flood

Kathmandu: India has approved the export of power to Nepal Electricity Authority for 18 hours a day starting from September 13, 2026.The approval has been given for up to 600 MW of export through Muzaffarpur-Dhalkebar 400 kV line and up to 54 MW through Tanakpur-Mahendrarnagar 132 kV transmission line till December 31, said Indian Embassy sources, quoting a notice from the Ministry of Power, India.
The Bhotekoshi-Trishuli flash flood that hit Nepal on August 26, damaged seven operating hydropower projects and five solar plants, causing a combined disruption of around 275 MW power supply, according to the official data.
"The approval will help Nepal meet its power requirements during this difficult period and further strengthen the close and longstanding energy cooperation between India and Nepal," said an official release.
"India remains committed to supporting Nepal and strengthening bilateral cooperation in the energy sector," the release added.
