West Bengal : Former TMC Minister Udayan Guha Held For Extortion
The former Trinamul Congress MLA allegedly took cut money from some applicants in a housing scheme of the state government when Trinamul was in power.

Kolkata : Former West Bengal minister Udayan Guha was arrested by Coochbehar Police from Kolkata on Wednesday in connection with an extortion case. He was caught from his flat at Phoolbagan in northern parts of the city in the morning.
The former Trinamul Congress MLA, who once held the portfolio of North Bengal Development in the cabinet of previous chief minister Mamata Banerjee, allegedly took cut money from some applicants in a housing scheme of the state government when his party was in power.
Two complaints were registered at Dinhata police station this month. The cops launched a probe. They recently got a tip-off about his presence in Phoolbagan. After his arrest, Mr Guha was taken to Phoolbagan police station initially since the location of his apprehension fell under its jurisdiction.
He however claimed that he has already been granted bail in the case. Mr Guha is being taken to his hometown where he would be produced at a court. Preliminary investigations revealed that he left his home turf, Dinhata, after losing the seat to Ajoy Roy of BJP in the Assembly Election and was staying in Phoolbagan quietly.
Mr Roy said that Mr Guha’s name has cropped up in many other cases including the post-poll violence in 2021 and murder of a BJP worker, Ratan Burman in the district.
