SANGAREDDY: Senior Congress leader Jetti Kusuma Kumar has been appointed as the All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary for Odisha. The party high command made the appointment as part of efforts to strengthen the organisation in the state. Kusuma Kumar is the only leader from Telangana to be assigned responsibility for party affairs in another state.
A native of Sangareddy, Kusuma Kumar began his political journey as a student leader and has worked with the NSUI, Youth Congress, and the Congress. He previously served as AICC in-charge for Assembly elections in Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Gujarat, and was also deputed to Delhi, Rajasthan, and Jammu and Kashmir for party activities.
Interestingly, Kusuma Kumar studied with TPCC working president and former MLA T. Jayaprakash Jagga Reddy in Sangareddy, and was a classmate of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy at AV Degree College in Hyderabad. In this context, the high command has appointed him to handle Odisha affairs ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, AICC secretary Jetti Kusuma Kumar said that the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD is fading from Odisha’s political landscape and that the BJP and Congress will soon emerge as the two major forces. He thanked the party leadership for entrusting him with the responsibility of strengthening the Congress in Odisha.
