Tensions Soar Within YSRC as Rebellion Brews Against Dy CM Narayana Swamy
Tirupati: As the 2024 Assembly elections approach, the ruling YSRC is allegedly grappling with internal dissent, with tensions reaching a boiling point in the Gangadhara (GD) Nellore constituency of Chittoor district.
YSRC leaders from five mandals in the Gangadhara Nellore segment, represented by Deputy Chief Minister K. Narayana Swamy, attempted to voice their grievances on Saturday evening.
The leaders sought an audience with senior party leader and minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy at his residence in Tirupati.
The primary agenda of the meeting was to formally complain and vehemently oppose the potential re-nomination of Dy. CM Narayana Swamy as the YSRC
candidate from the Gangadhara Nellore constituency for the upcoming 2024 polls.
The leaders urged the party high command not to grant Swamy the ticket to contest again on a YSRC ticket, signalling a significant rift within the party.
Sources within the party have indicated that there has been a long-simmering discontent among the local YSRC leaders against Swamy. This discontent has resulted in groupism at the constituency level.
The ongoing power struggle between former MP M. Gnanendra Reddy and Swamy for control over local party affairs is also seen as a pivotal factor triggering the rebellion against the incumbent Deputy Chief Minister.
The internal strife within the ruling party burst into the open when the Gangadhara Nellore YSRC leaders tried to approach minister Peddireddy
Ramachandra Reddy.
Their plea was clear: Narayana Swamy should not be fielded from the seat again. They warned that his candidature could lead to the party’s defeat in the segment, emphasising the urgency of addressing the discontent within the party ranks.
However, their attempt to meet with Peddireddy remained futile, as sources revealed that the minister was reportedly unavailable at the time. This has further fueled speculation and uncertainty regarding how the party leadership will navigate the escalating tensions within its ranks in the Gangadhara Nellore constituency.
