Telangana youth Congress leaders taken into custody

Hyderabad: Police took scores of Youth Congress leaders into custody when they attempted to lay siege to Pragathi Bhavan, the Chief Minister’s camp office, on Saturday. Some of them were injured during the melee and two were taken to a private hospital for treatment.

They were protesting against alleged irregularities in the physical fitness tests for police recruitment. Police shifted the leaders, who included TS Youth Congress secretary P. Gopi Krishna, and activists to the Goshamahal police station.

In the evening, party leaders led by former home minister K. Jana Reddy visited the police station and demanded the release of the leaders and activists. "Government should resolve the contentious issue,” Jana Reddy demanded.

PCC vice-president, media communications, Chamala Kiran Kumar said the activists were injured in a police lathicharge. State YC president K. Shiv Sena Reddy and others alleged a delay in shifting the injured to the hospital.
