G Kishan Reddy announces schedule for 2021 Census

MoS blames MIM ‘irresponsibility’ for protests.

HYDERABAD: Union minister of state for home affairs G. Kishan Reddy on Monday annou-nced that Nationwide Census-2021 will start from April to September 2020 in various parts of the country for collecting data from households. The Census will be carried out with the help of an application and there will not be any need to submit proofs of identity, he underlined.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP’s state office here, the Union minister said population census will be held from February 9 to February 28, 2021, in 640 districts, 5,924 revenue divisions and 7,933 towns across the country simultaneously. As many as 6,40,932 villages will be covered under the Census.

According to the 2011 Census, the population of the country was 121 crore, with the number of houses being 24 crore.

Mr Reddy said in the 2011 Census, about 2.7 million employees participated in collection of population data.

For the coming Census, a mobile-based application will be used to collect data and at some places, it will be collected manually. Data collection sheets have been developed in 18 languages.

“The Census enumeration can be made both through mobile and web-portal. There will not be any need to submit proof. Enumerators will also not ask for any proof. Only a few queries have been additionally included,” he stated.

Mr Reddy informed that people can also register their family details on the website and through mobile applications. All the states will have to carry out the survey. They should follow the Civil Registration System to record details of births and deaths. Only about 86 per cent of births and 78.1 per cent deaths in 2016 have been sent to the union government, he said.

Following the population Census, the Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies will be divided and the reserved constituencies will be announced.

Mr Reddy said the TRS government had also collected data in the name of ‘Samagra Survey’ but the government did not utilise it in a proper manner.

He countered AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi’s remarks on Union home minister Amit Shah saying that Mr Owaisi does not have the capability to criticise Mr Shah.

“It is because of the irresponsible behaviour of the political party for the last one month that protests have been taking place across the country,” he pointed out.

The Union minister alleged that several areas of the Old City have fallen vacant after Hindus and tribal people have left them. Mr Owaisi will have to provide the reason for this.

Further, he said family members of Sonia Gandhi not following security protocols and leaving the security behind is a regular phenomenon.

They are now complaining that security is not being providing to Priyanka Gandhi-Vadra, he added.
