NELLORE: Telugu Desam boss and former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu alleged that only cash is being accepted in liquor shops because it was going directly into the pockets of Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Taking part in a road show in Kuppam municipal limits on Saturday, he demanded to know why cash was being accepted in government liquor shops when digital payments are accepted even by pan shops and roadside eateries.
“Undoubtedly, most of the liquor cash is going into the pockets of Jagan Reddy himself. The Chief Minister is looting the consumers by selling substandard brands at exorbitant rates,” Naidu alleged adding that the Chief Minister was making a mockery of the liquor policy.
Most people from the border districts are going to Tamil Nadu where liquor is sold at significantly less prices. Even petrol was priced at Rs 106 per litre in Tamil Nadu whereas it was Rs 116 in Andhra Pradesh, he said.
Naidu wanted to know how Reddy was collecting Rs 15,000 in taxes from poor families for the houses given to them during the TDP regime. He asked women to reject Reddy’s policies since he was imposing tax even on toilets. He also slammed the government for the proposed 15 percent property tax based on market value.
Earlier, mild tensions prevailed as TDP leaders fumed when their party flexies and banners from Rallabuduguru to Karnataka border were forcibly removed. On the second and final day of his Kuppam tour, Naidu took representations from the people at the guest house before starting his roadshow.
