Roll back price hike: Congress

He alleged that one bag of DAP's cost had increased to Rs 1,425 from the earlier Rs 1,120 and form Rs 300 to Rs 500 on other fertilizers.

Vijayawada: The Congress party, on Tuesday, has alleged that the BJP was putting a huge extra financial burden on the agricultural sector by a hefty increase in prices of fertilizers and pesticides.

Addressing a press meet at Vijayawada on Tuesday, AP Congress Committee Vice-President Dr N Thulasi Reddy alleged that the BJP had turned anti-farmer and pro-corporate as it was encouraging corporate companies and discouraging the agriculture sector and farmers, who were food producers for the country.

Thulasi Reddy alleged that already the BJP-led union government had increased prices of fertilizers and pesticides in the month of June this year and once again, the prices were hiked on October 1, which was severely objectionable.

He alleged that one bag of DAP’s cost had increased to Rs 1,425 from the earlier Rs 1,120 and form Rs 300 to Rs 500 on other fertilizers.

He said that already the prices of diesel had rapidly increased and hence the government should decrease the diesel prices to help farmers as diesel is a must for tractors for agricultural purposes.
