Report on BJP's power deals' by November 7: DK Shivakumar

The minister added that he had tried to fulfill the responsibility given to him by the legislature in appointing him chairman of the committee.

Bengaluru: Energy Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who heads the legislature committee probing the power purchase deals of the previous BJP government in the state, is hoping to have its report ready by November 7 and table it during the winter session of the state legislature in Belagavi.

Emerging from the last meeting of the committee here on Monday, Mr Shivakumar told reporters that he had asked its members to finalise and sign the report on November 7. But the minister refused to divulge its contents, saying, “We have come to our conclusions and have our recommendations ready. But I cannot share the details of the report as it is a confidential document. It will be placed before the legislature during its winter session."

Denying that the committee was trying to be vindictive against the BJP, he said, “I have not targeted anybody. In fact they are all my friends and we will work for the betterment of the state. The committee’s intention is not to merely make allegations , but to correct the system and make the energy department more efficient, and we have worked towards this end.”

The minister added that he had tried to fulfill the responsibility given to him by the legislature in appointing him chairman of the committee.

“I know my limitations. I am not a judge to prosecute anyone,” the energy minister said in reply to a question. The legislature committee was formed after state JD(S) chief, H.D. Kumaraswamy alleged that the previous BJP government had cost the exchequer a loss of Rs 28,000 crore in its power purchase deals.
