Left Parties and Congress Poll Pact Remains Unclear

Things will become clear after the Congress screening committee meets

Hyderabad: The CPM, which is in talks with the Congress for an alliance in the ensuing Assembly elections, has sought Madhira, whose incumbent is incidentally CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka. This could prove a thorny issue, opine analysts.

Left party sources stated that the CPI had sought Kothagudem, Munugode, Husnabad and Bellampally, while the CPM was pitching for Bhadrachalam, Paleru, Miryalaguda, Madhira and Ibrahimpatnam. The Left parties have a strong presence in the undivided Nalgonda and Khammam districts. Incidentally, Bhadrachalam also has a Congress MLA.

On the status of the talks, CPI state secretary Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao said, “There have been no talks after the initial contact through mediators. We will go for talks only if the atmosphere is conducive. Let them call us if they need our alliance. There is no role for middlemen now.”

However, sources in the CPM said, “Things will become clear after the Congress screening committee meets. Talks with the CPI concluded five days back and with the CPM two days back.”
